Having a good time playing with all my computer (PC) operating systems.
I presently have three main operating systems active here at all times. Windows 11, Apple IOS , and Fedora Linux. I also mess around some with Arduino and Raspberry Pi micro computers. I don’t use the micros for any mainstream applications.
Honestly, I don’t favor any one OS over another. The MicroSoft business plan has me a bit concerned as they seem to be more interested in gathering information on how I use the software than keeping my activity secure. I have all the CoPilot AI (all I can find) turned off. That doesn’t imply I got it all.
Apple may be just as bad but no one seems to be making a case or at least a fuss about it. There is at least no CoPilot trying to take over control every 10 seconds.
Linux seems a harmless OS, as far as data-snooping. But there is no reason to believe it is totally innocent. There may be apps I can load that will be just as bad as Microsoft in “phoning home” revealing what is going on, on screen.
My iPhone is probably far more evil than my desktop computers.
I am what I am and do what I do. I observe how the major operating systems play their marketing games. I don’t let it bother me too much. Just as long as I can do what I need or want to do and don’t have to fear I am being abused.
My computer activity is no where close to super secret or critical. Mostly hobby stuff and an occasional Amazon order on line.
Most of my desktop computer use is now concentrated on the 3D printing hobby. The CAD (drawing and drafting programs) I use (AutoDesk FUSION and Onshape) are freeware (no cost) which requires everything I design and save are posted as public access on the internet.
No reason to hack through my firewalls to steal my 1,000+ CAD drawings. They are already fully exposed if you know where to look.
If I am not working on a new design, I will have a printer control screen running for many hours. Talk about a boring target to hack.
Bottom line… I am not a good target for real time hacking. But AI is changing the game. It doesn’t mind spending time looking for tidbits in stored mass data searches. But I have nothing of high value as an individual with few secrets.
What really has me concerned is the sudden and extremely high demand for “Data Centers” . That’s a subject for another post sometime in the future. No one is asking or anyone saying WHY so many are needed. That’s the BIG secret that interests me.
